Flow level models of DiffServ packet level mechanisms

چکیده

We present a simple flow level model that helps in understanding the effects of various DiffServ traffic conditioning methods on bandwidth sharing among elastic TCP flows. We concentrate on a single backbone link and consider a static case, where the number of TCP flows is fixed. In a Relative Service approach, the bandwidth share θ of a flow should be proportional to a weight φ assigned to the flow. It turns out that per packet marking (e.g. Leaky Bucket) yields a slightly better approximation compared to per flow marking (e.g. Exponentially Weighted Moving Average). For both marking schemes, however, the approximation is the better, the more there are precedence levels.

Differentiation and Interaction of Traffic: A Flow Level Study

We study what kind of differentiation can be achieved using DiffServ without admission control using a relative services approach, i.e. the rate of the flow should be in proportion to the contracted rate. We model analytically differentiation mechanisms proposed in such proposals as AF and Simple Integrated Media Access (SIMA) with emphasis on modelling the interaction between various different...

A Simulation Study on the Relation of DiffServ Packet Level Mechanisms and Flow Level QoS Requirements

We deepen our previous analytical studies to include simulations, with special considerations on the effect that the metering mechanisms at the DiffServ boundary nodes have on differentiation. The two metering and marking mechanisms compared are token bucket and exponential weighted moving average (EWMA). The conjecture made in our analytical models is that the EWMA principle marks packets per ...

A framework for providing differentiated QoS guarantees in IP-based network

The paper describes the traffic handling mechanisms implemented in the AQUILA pilot QoS IP network [AQUILA Project Consortium (2001)]. The AQUILA architecture enhances the DiffServ concept [A Conceptual Model for DiffServ Routers (2000), An Architecture for Differentiated Services (1998), An Expedited Forwarding PHB (2001)] by adding new functionality for admission control and resource manageme...

A Fuzzy Based Three Color Meter/Marker for Diffserv Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

Differentiated Services (Diffserv) which was proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a scalable and robust model for providing the end-to-end QoS. In the Diffserv networks, metering mechanisms are used to measure traffic stream. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) [1],which was proposed by IETF,‏ meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red....
